Watch City Steampunk Festival on, but HVAC problems have cancelled our performance

Jay — Wed, 26 Apr 2023 20:04:31 +0000

Cancelled
Sadly, due to HVAC problems at the Waltham Public Library, all events there have had to be cancelled this weekend, and we can no longer perform “The Final Problem”. However, the rest of Watch City Steampunk Festival is still happening, and PMRP very much encourages you still to attend. I have it on good authority that Sherlock Holmes and John Watson, both of whom are good friends of PMRP, will be perambulating the festival, and as the Festival is a free event, they will be waiving their usual fee, should you have any mysteries that need investigation.

At noon on Saturday, May 13th, as part of the Watch City Steampunk Festival in Waltham, PMRP ~~will be reprising~~ had hoped to reprise our original adaptation of “The Final Problem”. In what Arthur Conan Doyle intended to be his last Sherlock Holmes story, the detective battles his most famous adversary, the infamous Professor Moriarty. (We originally performed “The Final Problem” as part of our summer show Moriarty’s Mysteries in 2018.)

This performance ~~will~~ was to be at 12pm at the Waltham Public Library’s lecture hall, at 735 Main Street in Waltham. See this page (scroll down to “Schedule for 2023” and then scroll inside the embedded window) for the full schedule of events. Attendance is free.

VOX POP presents The Cask of Amontillado

Jay — Fri, 02 Aug 2019 20:11:06 +0000

On Friday, August 23, 2019, PMRP reprised our original adaptation of “The Cask of Amontillado” at the Somerville Media Center’s pop-up performance space VOX POP at 431 Artisan Way in Assembly Square, Somerville. The performance was at 7:00pm and lasted about an hour (including a Q-and-A session following the performance). Their calendar of events had more details.

This performance was broacast and streamed live on Somerville Cable Access Television, and it’s now on YouTube here, or you can watch it below.

Naomi Ibasitas directed Mare Freed’s adaptation, which transplants Poe’s classic tale to the Roaring Twenties. Freed originally directed her own adaptation for PMRP as part of Tomes of Terror: Nevermore in 2014, and Ibasitas first directed it as part of Fort Point Theatre Channel’s Senses series on Halloween night in 2018.

Filibus: The Mysterious Sky Pirate and Confidence Confidant

Jay — Fri, 04 Jan 2019 02:15:01 +0000

Performances: April 5, 6, 11, 12, and 13, 2019.
(8pm performances on all dates, plus a 2pm matinée on Saturday the 6th. Thursday the 11th will be a pay-what-you-can night.)
Location: Boston Brunch Church (formerly Responsible Grace), 204 Elm Street, Somerville.

The Post-Meridian Radio Players are proud to announce our Spring show, “Filibus: The Mysterious Sky Pirate,” and “Confidence Confidant” — two adventure stories featuring daring women of disguise and intrigue!

Filibus: The Mysterious Sky Pirate is an original adaptation by Brian Kjersten of the 1915 silent film in which a daring burgler, Filibus (actually the Baroness de Troixmonde), uses her airship, an array of secret identities including the Count de la Brive, and a great deal of daring, charm, deception, and persuasion, in an attempt not only to steal valuable jewels, but to demonstrate her superior abilities of deception and best her antagonist, the famous detective Hardy! (PMRP audiences may find a bit of an echo of Arsène Lupin in her!)

Confidence Confidant, an original script by Eva C. Schegulla, is based on a historical case of Kate Warne, the first female Pinkerton detective. Like the fictional Filibus, the historical Warne used deception, secret identities, courage, and charm to accomplish her goals; when Pinkterton told her women (in the mid-19th century) couldn’t be detectives, she persuaded him by pointing out that she could go places his male operatives couldn’t and talk to people who wouldn’t trust them. Among other cases, was involved in foiling a plot to assassinate Lincoln just before his inauguration.

Santa Claus Conquers the Martians

Jay — Sat, 08 Apr 2017 16:39:25 +0000

This page is for 2017’s performance! But you’re not too late! This was so popular and we and the audiences had so much fun that we’re performing it again on December 6 and 7 of 2019! You can read about the upcoming encore performance here!

Performances: Friday, December 1, 2017, at 8:00pm, Saturday, December 2, 2017, matinée at 2:00pm, and Saturday, December 2, 2017, evening show at 8:00pm at Unity Somerville
Tickets and reservations are available on our Tickets page.

This December, The Post-Meridian Radio Players will be presenting an original adaptation of that 1964 Christmas classic film, Santa Claus Conquers the Martians, in which Martians, concerned that their children are bored and listless and don’t want to do anything but watch Earth television programs, kidnap Santa Claus (and a couple of unlucky Earth children) from the earth and bring him to Mars to make toys so their children can be kids again. Can Santa get back to Earth in time for Christmas? Are the children of Mars doomed to a joyless life of food pills and machine-implanted learning? Is that terrifying, huge polar bear going to eat our young heroes? Will Crow T. Robot and Tom Servo show up to heckle? (Hint: No.) Find out for yourself at PMRP’s Santa Claus Conquers the Martians!

This is a family-friendly event and for the Saturday matinée we will have some fun kids’ activities before and after the show.
