For Halloween 2025, the Post Meridian Radio Players are proud to present “The War of the Worlds and Other Invasions”, three radio-drama adaptations of classic H. G. Wells stories!

In Ron N. Butler’s adaptation of “The Man Who Could Work Miracles”, directed by Jaimie Carlson, a skeptic discovers by accident that his wishes come true, with hilarious consequences, and tries to figure out what to do with his newfound powers.

In Joanie Brittingham’s adaptation of “The Sea Lady”, directed by Jay Sekora, a mermaid comes ashore in Newport, Rhode Island, and attempts to find her place in high society.

And in David McDowell Blue’s new adaptation of Wells’ classic, “The War of the Worlds”, directed by Mare Freed, invaders from Mars attempt to conquer Earth, whose inhabitants have to try to survive as best they can in the face of the invaders’ superior technology.

These audio plays will be presented on stage in the style of old-time radio with actors in front of microphones and sound effects performed live by our talented Foley artists!

For Halloween 2024, the Post Meridian Radio Players are proud to present “The Unseen Worlds of H. G. Wells”, four radio-drama adaptations of classic H. G. Wells stories!

In Robert Brophy’s adaptation of “The Cone”, a betrayed wife seeks a horrifying revenge upon her rival.

In Denise Baugh’s adaptation of “The Stolen Body”, a dabbler in the supernatural discovers some of the inconveniences that can arise when one foolishly leaves one’s body unattended.

In Michael McAfee’s adaptation of “The Inexperienced Ghost”, a group of friends at a club have a run-in with an unfortunate and somewhat ineffectual ghost.

And in Derek Webb’s adaptation of “The Invisible Man”, a disagreeable scientist discovers how to render himself invisible.

These audio plays will be presented on stage in the style of old-time radio with actors in front of microphones and sound effects performed live by our talented Foley artists!

For Halloween 2023, the Post Meridian Radio Players are proud to present two radio plays, each tying in with a classic part of the English-language horror tradition!

In Hannah Baker and Pooja Usgaonkar’s original horror-comedy The King in Yellow, a local community theater comes together to put on The King in Yellow, a notorious play of mysterious provenance that is rumored to drive its readers mad. As production continues, mishaps pile up, and tensions among the cast and crew come to a boil, but is it just bad luck, or something more sinister? The eponymous play was imagined by horror writer Robert W. Chambers in the 1890s for his book of short stories of the same title, and then incorporated by later writers into the Cthulhu Mythos.

And in our reprise of Jay Sekora’s radio-drama adaptation of the classic George A. Romero film Night of the Living Dead, a group of people try to survive, and struggle to cooperate, as they are besieged in a remote farmhouse by living corpses that have risen from the grave. The original film — in the public domain due to accidents and quirks of the law at the time of its release — created the modern zombie genre in Western filmmaking almost single-handedly. Our adaptation was originally presented in 2013 along with “Ghost Hunt”, and we are happy to be able to bring it to audiences again.

Tomes of Terror: Spirits of Suspense

PMRP is proud to present three tales of Suspense and Terror, resurrected from the airwaves of the long dead past.

First will be the dread countdown of Suspense’s “Three O’Clock,” based on the original short story by Cornell Woollrich. Join us as a murderer’s plot goes horribly awry while he is forced to watch… and wait.

Then we present the dread horror of Lucille Fletcher’s screenplay “The Furnished Floor.” Is the man upstairs just eccentric or does, just perhaps, the spirit of the beloved dead walk above?

Finally we present the Escape presentation of “The Birds,” based off the original Daphne du Maurier short story. Birds of a feather flock together… for blood!

All three classic old-time radio programs will be presented on stage in the style of old-time radio with actors in front of microphones and sound effects performed live by our talented Foley artists!

Performances are the last two weekends of October. There will be a costume contest with prizes on Saturday Oct. 29th!

The Post-Meridian Radio Players are proud to announce our Halloween show, “Plan 9 from Outer Space” with an original prequel fiasco, “Plan 8 from the Outer Ether”!

Plan 9 from Outer Space is an original adaptation by Michael McAfee of the classic “so bad it’s good” film by Ed Wood, in which extraterrestrials reanimate Eartlhings’ dead bodies.

Plan 8 From the Outer Ether: a Steampunk Fiasco, is a comedy about a dysfunctional theater troupe attempting to put on a live radio play. The play they’re performing, Plan 8, is a prequel to the events in “Plan 9 From Outer Space”, set roughly 50 years prior to the other show.

This Halloween the Post-Meridian Radio Players are proud to present Tomes of Terror: Beyond Grimm! Join us for original adaptations of four creepy tales from around the globe! We will be presenting:

“A Hare-Raising Tale” by Naomi Hinchen, directed by J. Deschene — A gambler swears he’ll play cards with anyone, any time. But when he meets a giant hare on his way home one night, he should be careful not to bet more than he can lose... (Read the dramaturg’s note on this segment.)

“The Myling” by Adrian Cory, directed by Tegan Kehoe — In the dead of winter, a loving family of four is plagued by tales of the Myling – and the dark secret the parents have been hiding for thirteen years. (Read the dramaturg’s note on this segment.)

“The Boy Who Drew Cats” by Greg Lam, directed by Laura Corliss — A boy is compelled to draw pictures of cats, to the chagrin of everyone else in his life. But are the cats more than they seem? (Read the dramaturg’s note on this segment.)

“La Siguanaba” by Elizabeth Salazar, directed by Joye Thaller — When a fruit plantation worker’s husband is mysteriously killed, she can’t shake her curiosity about the creature rumored to have done the deed. (Read the director’s interview of the playwright.)

Performances will run from October 25th through November 2nd at Boston Brunch Church (formerly Responsible Grace Church).

This Halloween the Post-Meridian Radio Players are proud to present The Van Helsing Chronicles! Famed monster hunter Professor Abra Van Helsing hosts and narrates two tales of Gothic horror in which she eventually also plays a role. We shall be presenting two stories, original adaptations of Richard Marsh's The Beetle and Bram Stoker's Dracula.

Performances: Six performances from October 20-21 and 26-28 at Responsible Grace Church, 204 Elm Street, Somerville. Performances will be at 8pm, except that Saturday the 21st will have both a 2pm matinée and an 8pm evening performance.

This Halloween PMRP is once again reaching back to ancient castles, creeping ghosts and murderous madmen with Tomes of Terror: Lenore! featuring three chilling tales:

Edith Nesbit’s “Hurst of Hurstcote”,
A doctor visits friends at Hurstcote to put old tensions to rest, but she is not the only one haunted by the past in this Victorian ghost story.
Edgar Allan Poe’s “The Premature Burial”,
Consumed with terror that he will be buried alive, the obsessive narrator tells his doctors about several horrifying real-life cases of vivisepulture.
Edgar Allan Poe’s “Hop Frog”,
A queen of a small country crosses paths with Hop-Frog, the jester in the court of a greedy, selfish king, and discovers the horrible secrets hidden in the palace...and how they will be avenged.

The show will also feature a reading of the poem “Lenore”.
