The Post-Meridian Radio Players are proud to present our original full-length adaptation of the science-fiction classic, Metropolis!

Based on the original novel by Thea von Harbou and the 1927 Fritz Lang film, Metropolis tells the story of a futuristic city harshly divided between the working class and the city élites. When the son of the city's Master Builder falls in love with a beautiful working-class prophet, a class war explodes into the streets, made all the worse by the inventor Rotwang’s plan to replace the working class with humanoid machines. Can Metropolis be saved before it burns to the ground?

Mare Freed, Naomi Hinchen, Jeremy Holstein, Brian Kjersten and Michael McAfee adapted the original novel by Thea von Harbou and her screenplay for the Fritz Lang film, and Jay Sekora will direct.

Tomes of Terror: Spirits of Suspense

PMRP is proud to present three tales of Suspense and Terror, resurrected from the airwaves of the long dead past.

First will be the dread countdown of Suspense’s “Three O’Clock,” based on the original short story by Cornell Woollrich. Join us as a murderer’s plot goes horribly awry while he is forced to watch… and wait.

Then we present the dread horror of Lucille Fletcher’s screenplay “The Furnished Floor.” Is the man upstairs just eccentric or does, just perhaps, the spirit of the beloved dead walk above?

Finally we present the Escape presentation of “The Birds,” based off the original Daphne du Maurier short story. Birds of a feather flock together… for blood!

All three classic old-time radio programs will be presented on stage in the style of old-time radio with actors in front of microphones and sound effects performed live by our talented Foley artists!

Performances are the last two weekends of October. There will be a costume contest with prizes on Saturday Oct. 29th!

Following on the success of last year’s performance of Doctor Who and the Starship of Madness, THE POST-MERIDIAN RADIO PLAYERS are putting on a bigger, bolder spring production this year!

It’s Go Time!

THE POST-MERIDIAN RADIO PLAYERS kick off their first Spring Sci-Fi Spectacular with one of their most popular shows!

Originally performed at Arisia '08, this episode of our sci-fi comedy, Red Shift: Interplanetary Do-Gooder, which both parodies and pays homage to the pulp sci-fi serials of the 1930s and ’40s (with a bit of the ’50s thrown in for good measure!), follows Red, Lumpy, Doc Alberts and Penny Parker, Girl Reporter as they try to save beloved space celebrity Jetpack Jones from his worst nightmare: angry fans with atomic weaponry!

Presented in PMRP Radio-Vision.

Red Shift: Interplanetary Do-Gooder

Writer/director Rob Noyes' vision of the World of Tomorrow. Not the bleak, post-nuclear wasteland or industrial urban dystopia of 1980s science-fiction, but the clean, modernist utopia imagined by the 1939 World’s Fair: a future which, through industry and hard work, promised to be streamlined, prosperous and bright; and beyond it lay the Cosmos, just waiting for exploration and colonization. Red Shift and Lumpy lived in just this kind of Universe, and Dr. Alberts and Penny Parker were keen to travel there. It turned out, however, to be just slightly off-center from what they were expecting.

From the long-running Lux Radio Theater comes this adaptation of the classic 1951 science-fiction film. Originally airing on January 4th, 1954, this production featured Michael Rennie reprising his performance of Klaatu. Lux Radio Theater was famous for producing radio adaptations of major motion pictures, often with the original lead actors.

This adaptation of Edmund H. North’s original film script was written by Milton Geiger. The film script itself was based on the Harry Bates short story "Farewell to the Master".

Once again, THE POST-MERIDIAN RADIO PLAYERS will bring you laughs, thrills and chills for Halloween with their annual LIVE "staged radio thrillogy", Tomes of Terror!

Come see radio drama performed the way it was back in the 1930's, 40's & 50's: with actors on microphones and a live Foley team creating sound effects, often with with unexpected, everyday objects.

Featuring

The Baby Snooks Show: An evening of trick-or-treating turns intoa hilarious night of disasters, as Daddy tries to one-up the father of Snooks’ friend, Roger. Of course, things never go as smoothly as Daddy plans, and events escalate into an all-out prank war!
The 1946 Halloween episode of the classic Golden Age comedy that originally starred Fanny Brice. Written by Philip Rapp.

Reynardine: In a small English village, tempers flare over a Prophecy that a terrible fate will befall the village if a fox is killed during the annual Hunt. What does Alice know? Why does she fear the return of her lover, gone now these five years? And what part does the mysterious were-fox play in it all?
Adapted by our own Renée Johnson from Athan Y. Chilton's short story The Ballad of Reynardine, which was based on modern interpretations of the popular English ballad "The Mountains High".

The Tell-Tale Heart: In Edgar Allan Poe's chilling tale of methodical murder, a man calmly narrates his cold-blooded killing of a prominent farmer in a small community. His carefully planned disposal of the evidence goes unnoticed by even the police, until the evidence itself comes back to haunt him...
Adapted for CBC Radio's Nightfall supernatural-horror anthology series by Len Peterson in 1980.

Leonard Byron Peterson
1917-2008

Our show this year is dedicated to the memory of Len Peterson, the Canadian playwright who granted us permission to perform some of his plays from CBC Radio's Nightfall, a supernatural- horror anthology series that ran in the early 1980s. Mr. Peterson passed away on February 28th of this year, at the age of 90, leaving behind a legacy of award-winning radio dramas about many social issues which, when originally written, caused much controversy.
We at PMRP were saddened to hear of his passing, but are grateful to Mr. Peterson for allowing us to perform some of his works for a new audience.

Featuring

Halloween Party: An episode of the classic Golden Age comedy series Our Miss Brooks from 1949, featuring Constance Brooks, a teacher at Madison High School, her explosive principal Osgood Conklin, and an assortment of students looking for a place to hold their Halloween party. Written by Al Lewis.

Carmilla: Based on the creepy novella by J. Sheridan LeFanu. Performance adaptation by Renée Johnson, based on the 1981 Nightfall episode by John Douglas and Graham Pomeroy.

The Stone Ship: One of William Hope Hodgson's many frightening sea tales, this adaptation was written for Nightfall by Len Peterson in 1980.

THE POST-MERIDIAN RADIO PLAYERS present their first “staged radio thrillogy”, Tomes of Terror!
Come see how the programs that entertained America for over 30 years were made. Actors with scripts in-hand and live sound effects artists will make you laugh, shiver and scream—all in good fun, though!

Featuring

Gildersleeve’s Halloween Party: A wonderful episode of the classic Golden Age comedy series Fibber McGee & Molly from 1939, featuring the McGee’s popular neighbor, Throckmorton P. Gildersleeve, and many of the regular characters from Wistful Vista.

The Maid’s Bell: An adaptation of one of Edith Wharton’s best ghost stories, “The Lady Maid’s Bell”, written for CBC Radio’s infamous Nightfall horror series in 1982 by playwright/actor/director John Douglas.

The Monkey’s Paw: Perhaps one of the greatest of the classic horror tales, "The Monkey’s Paw" has rarely been rendered in audio format. Penned by W. W. Jacobs in 1902, this adaptation was written for Nightfall by Len Peterson, who has been called “Canada’s most prolific and versatile playwright”, in 1980.

When a mystery man pays private detectives Jack Justice and Trixie Dixon a hefty retainer to drop a client they never had, it looks like they finally caught that nice soft case every detective dreams of. But it couldn't really be that simple...could it?

A product of the Toronto-based audio drama producer Decoder Ring Theatre, this series features tales from the casebook of that master of mystery, that sultan of sleuthing, Martin Bracknell's immortal detective Black Jack Justice. From 1947 to 1954, Escape was the leading high-adventure anthology series on radio and featured the popular voice actor William Conrad (later to play Marshal Matt Dillon on the radio version of Gunsmoke and Frank Cannon in the 1970s TV detective series Cannon). After Orson Welles' War of the Worlds broadcast, "Three Skeleton Key" is, perhaps, the most famous radio drama story of all time. Between Escape and its sister show, Suspense (1942–1962), audience demand compelled producers to air the story no less than five times!
