Adapted from the novel that inspired the 1941 John Huston noir film, The Maltese Falcon features San Francisco private eye Sam Spade in his debut appearance. When trouble arrives at Spade's doorstep in the form of the desperately tragic Miss Wonderly, it drags him into a web of intrigue, deceit, betrayal, and murder as several eccentric criminals seek to obtain the titular falcon. See the show page for more about this show.
Come audition to be a part of this live-audio-drama adaptation of Dashiell Hammett's 1930 hardboiled detective novel!
Read on for information about auditions and the form to sign up for an audition slot!
Auditions will be Monday, May 11, and Tuesday, May 12, 2026 at Guild Church in Somerville. Scroll down to learn how to sign up for a slot and audition.
Parts will be available for both voice and Foley roles! (We also have crew positions.)
Of interest: While the individual characters in this play are gendered, we are open to actors of any gender in any role. You do not have to be a particular gender to play a role; you just have to portray that gender.
Performances will be on two weekends from July 16–25 (15–26?), 2026, in Somerville and Boston.
IMPORTANT: Since performers will be in close proximity on stage and at rehearsals, we are requiring performers to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
PLEASE NOTE: The Post-Meridian Radio Players is a community theater group and is run by volunteers. Our performers are not paid.
How to Audition
Now
- First, consult the description of the audio play on the show page, and the audition sides and character descriptions in our Audition Documents folder on Google Drive, to get a sense of the plays and an idea of what roles you’re interested in.
- Then, click here UPDATE LINK WHEN FORM IS LIVE to sign up for an audition appointment, fill out the form, and submit it.
- This form is both to sign up for an audition slot and to tell us about your skills and interests and let us know (for instance) what plays or roles you’re particularly interested in. This means that you’ll want to think not just about when you’d like to audition, but also about what specifically you’re interested in auditioning for, before (or while) you fill out the form
- Space permitting, we will still be accommodating walk-ins at audition, and there will be a way for you to fill out the audition form on-site. Audition reservations are very much encouraged, though!
- If you have submitted the form correctly and one of the time slots you requested is still available, you will get email confirming your audition appointment. (This is sent by a human being who has a day job, so don't worry if it doesn't come right away. But if it doesn’t come within a day or so, contact us at auditions@pmrp.org. You can also use that address to contact us if you have trouble submitting the form.)
Before your audition
- Print out (or download to your tablet) the audition sides from our Google Drive Audition Docs folder. You’ll want to look over and/or rehearse them before your audition, and it will be very helpful if you can bring your copy to the audition (although we’ll have a few extra copies printed out).
- Then, show up for your audition at the scheduled time! Good luck and have fun!
Some Things to Know
- Rehearsals will generally be on Mondays. (The first rehearsal after readthrough will be on Tuesday, May 26, however, due to Memorial Day.) For the first few weeks, Foley and voice actors will be rehearsing at the same time, but in separate locations in the church. After the first three weeks or so, voice and Foley will rejoin and rehearse together.
- If you show up for an audition without having filled out your form, we’ll probably have a paper copy you can fill out and we can transcribe, or a QR code for the form so you can fill it out on your phone. However, it saves time and trouble and makes the process go more smoothly if you submit the form before your audition. (It also helps demonstrate to the directors how responsible and resourceful you are!)
- Similarly, if you don't have sides printed out (or on a tablet) we'll have some copies auditionees can borrow, but it's best if you can print them out or have them on a device you can comfortably read from.
- Walk-ins are welcome, but people with appointments will take priority. If there are no-shows during a given hour, we will fill those slots with walk-ins. Any remaining walk-ins will be auditioned at 10pm. It helps the directors tremendously if you sign up in advance, though.
Location
(The second weekend’s performances will be at Boston Center for the Arts.)
